After the defeat against Manchester United at Old Trafford, Emerson Palmieri, who replaced Marcos Alonso as Chelsea left-back last season, showed confidence in the team and his manager. While talking to the Brazillian media, he claimed that the team was decent enough offensively but it was the defence that let everyone down.

“For 60, 65 minutes we had a good game. And then, the result, for me, doesn’t say what the match was,” Emerson Palmieri told ESPN Brasil.

“We had three, four chances to score. Two balls on the crossbar. At least one goal we had to score. We knew about their quick counter-attack. Of course, they also have their merit. But there’s also our lack of attention. Could have defended better, could have been more attentive.”

Palmieri had a good game and looked confident going forward. He also hit the crossbar once and had some really good chances of scoring, however, luck didn’t seem to be on his side.

Frank Lampard has made it clear during his press conference that everyone has to work hard to keep their position and with Marcos Alonso waiting on the bench, Palmieri would be hoping for a better game up next.

Do you think Emerson Palmieri is a better left-back than Marcos Alonso? Let us know.
