Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has backed Chelsea to finish in the top six of the Premier League table this season.

The Blues are still finding their feet under the new gaffer Frank Lampard who took over the charge from Maurizio Sarri in the summer.

The former Blues player turned manager has been an instant hit amongst the Chelsea fans as he provides opportunities to the academy youngsters like Tammy Abraham, Fikayo Tomori, Mason Mount and Reece James.

Currently, at the 7th place in the league, the ever-improving Chelsea takes on Southampton at the St. Mary’s Stadium on Sunday in the search of the three points and United legend Rio Ferdinand reckons that the Blues would be aiming for a top 4 finish even though top six looks more of a reality right now.

“Top six”, said Ferdinand when quizzed about where he thinks it would be acceptable for Chelsea to finish this season.

“Frank will be going for top four, that’s the way he is. He’s a person who wants to win and achieve and overachieve.

“But top six I think would have been the remit at the start of the season.”
