Chelsea manager Frank Lampard says he did not expect media to link Lyon striker Moussa Dembele with a move to Stamford Bridge.
Frank Lampard is believed to be interested in signing a new striker during the January transfer window to assist high flying Tammy Abraham and French international Dembele was thought to be one of his prime targets.
Recently, journalist Ian McGarry claimed on a fan podcast that Moussa Dembele had agreed to the personal terms with Chelsea and a move was highly likely if transfer fee could be agreed with Lyon.
However, Lampard brushed aside all these rumours as mere speculations while speaking in a press conference on Friday.
He told reporters:
He’s a player I know and a player the club know, but I’m surprised to see his name crop up so frequently in relation to us to be brutally honest.
“And I could say the same thing about a number of players this week. I don’t want to go cut and dried on anyone. But it’s not one we’re openly talking about.”
On whether Chelsea are close to finalising any signings, Lampard added:
No, not at the moment. But what is close? It’s January, and if it’s right we’ll look at it.
“Nothing’s imminent, we’re not going to have any big news today, or tomorrow.”
Chelsea will be facing Burnley at Stamford Bridge on Saturday in the English Premier League.
