Chelsea finalised the signing of Hakim Ziyech from Ajax earlier this week with the and the forward is all set to join his Chelsea team-mates at the start of the next season.
Given the current run of form the Moroccan is currently in, the £36.7m fee is considered a bargain by many. Ziyech has scored 48 goals and provided 82 assists in just 160 games for the Eredivisie champions.
With Manchester City banned from the Champions League for two seasons, the Blues are now well placed to remain a Champions League side when the 26-year-old will join the Stamford Bridge side ahead of the new season, and Frank Lampard’s former Chelsea team-mate Khalid Boulahrouz expects big things from the new signing.
However, he reckons Ziyech would not have fitted Maurizio Sarri’s style last season with Lampard now the perfect manager to get the best out of him.
The former Chelsea defender told Tribal Football of Lampard:
He is a player who wants to play football forward. With football that fits Ziyech.
“You can see that in the players around him. Mason Mount, Willian and Tammy Abraham promote the vision of Lampard and that is important for Ziyech.
“Even in the Premier League, Chelsea wants to solve everything by playing football. That is also nice for the ordinary football fan.
“I think the Chelsea before Lampard would have been less suitable for Hakim.
“Then the football there, as I call it, was not positive.
“Because of the temporary transfer ban, they were able to take the time at Chelsea to view players. That they end up at Ziyech also says something.
“Ziyech didn’t just choose a club.
“He has been very satisfied with Ajax in recent years and in that period the necessary clubs have also come along.
“Now at Chelsea he ends up with a team where everything is perfectly arranged and in a city where it is great to live.”
Lampard recently praised Ziyech during his press conference saying he was a fantastic player and was under Chelsea’s radar for quite some time now.
